Dates: Tuesdays, 11/11, 12/9, 1/13, 2/10, 3/10, 4/14 Time: 7:00 pm Location: Temple Israel In-person with optional virtual access Meet Your Mussar Spiritual Lineage The vast majority of Jews today are spiritual orphans, unaware that they are heirs to a great spiritual tradition. This course aims to reconnect contemporary Jewish spiritual seekers to that heritage by introducing six influential Mussar teachers and their teachings that comprise a lineage stretching from the present back nearly 1,000 years. We look forward to sharing insights into these unique and treasured individuals, the contexts in which they lived and taught, and their wise and insightful teachings. You will come to see yourself connected to a great chain of tradition and will feel the vibrant link to your spiritual ancestors and the lessons for living that they have bequeathed to you. Join Dr. Barry Horowitz & Rabbi Howard Shapiro one evening per month to dive into Mussar, a centuries-old Jewish ethical tradition, finding meaning in our lives today. One of the core principles of Mussar is that each of us has a task in this world: to become the best version of ourselves that we can be. The Mussar teachers tell us that we do that best by putting into practice what we have learned about ourselves and embody Jewish values in our daily lives. This course is free and open to all but we suggest an online donation of $54 directly to the Mussar Institute in honor of Temple Israel for use of their materials and guidance.
